Inclusion, rehabilitation and training for people with disabilities
The Global Rainbow Foundation works on the inclusion, rehabilitation and empowerment of people with disabilities in Mauritius. Established in 2012, it runs rehabilitation and therapy services, distributes assistive devices, and provides vocational and digital skills training aimed at getting people with disabilities into real employment rather than sheltered occupation.
Alongside direct services it works on accessibility and disability rights — advising on the physical and digital accessibility of public services, and on the employment practices that keep qualified people with disabilities out of work. It also runs programmes for children with disabilities and support for their families.

Six months of accessible digital skills training for people with disabilities, ending in supported placement with employers who have committed to hiring.

Wheelchairs, prosthetics, hearing aids and mobility aids — fitted, adjusted and maintained, for people for whom the device is the difference between a life and a room.
Target: MUR 2,900,000
Thirty-eight devices fitted this quarter: 14 wheelchairs, 9 hearing aids, 7 prosthetic limbs and 8 mobility aids. Every one of them was assessed and fitted rather than handed over, and all 38 recipients are booked for their six-month adjustment.
The children’s wheelchair waiting list is the pressure point — a growing child needs a new chair roughly every eighteen months and the fund is not currently sized for that.

Nineteen of the thirty-two participants from the last cohort are in work six months after placement. That is the highest we have recorded, and the difference is almost entirely on the employer side — the four companies that took the accessibility audit seriously account for most of the retained placements.
