These terms describe how the platform actually works, but they have not been reviewed by a legal practitioner. The liability, termination and governing-law clauses in particular are drafting placeholders. They must not be published as binding terms until the operator has had them reviewed.

Terms of use

The rules for listing on, searching, and reading MoNGO.

1. What MoNGO is — and is not

MoNGO is a referral directory. NGOs in Mauritius publish a page describing who they are, what they need funded and what they have delivered; companies and members of the public search those pages and contact the organisations directly.

MoNGO never touches money. It processes no donations, holds no funds, takes no commission, and is not a party to any contribution that follows from a referral. Any money that moves does so directly between a contributor and an NGO, on terms they agree between themselves. MoNGO gives no tax, accounting or CSR-compliance advice; information about the NSIF framework on this site is general and is not a substitute for professional advice.

2. Accounts

NGO workspaces are created by invitation from a platform administrator. Company workspaces are self-registered and confirmed by email. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter, for keeping your password confidential, and for everything done through your account. Tell the operator promptly if you believe an account has been compromised.

An account is for the organisation named on it. Do not create an account purporting to represent an organisation you are not authorised to act for.

3. What NGOs undertake

By publishing a page, an NGO confirms that:

the information on it — including registration details, NSIF status, funding targets and amounts reported as raised — is accurate and kept up to date;
it holds the rights to publish every image it uploads, and has obtained the informed consent of every identifiable person appearing in a photograph — including beneficiaries, and including a parent or guardian’s consent where the person is a child;
its content is lawful and is not misleading, defamatory, discriminatory, or in breach of anyone’s privacy;
it will respond to enquiries received through the platform, or say that it cannot.

These obligations are the NGO’s own. MoNGO does not pre-vet content before it is published.

4. What companies undertake

Company workspaces exist to shortlist and contact NGOs for genuine CSR purposes. Do not use enquiry forms for marketing, recruitment, or bulk messaging, and do not extract NGO details for resale or for any list you intend to distribute.

5. Verification and NSIF status

A Verifiedbadge means an administrator has checked the organisation’s registration details. It is a trust signal, not a guarantee: it is not an endorsement of the organisation’s work, its finances, or the accuracy of any specific claim on its page.

NSIF status shown on a page is the status the NGO reported and an administrator recorded. It can lapse. If eligibility matters to a funding decision, confirm it with the organisation and against the current NSIF guidelines rather than relying on this site.

6. Reporting content, and removal

Every published page carries a “Report this content” control that anyone can use without an account. An administrator reviews each report and may unpublishthe content, which removes it from public view and from the browse indexes. Photographs published without the subject’s consent are reportable under a dedicated Safeguarding concern reason and will be treated as a priority.

The operator may also unpublish content, suspend an account, or remove an organisation where these terms are breached. There is currently no formal appeals process: a single operator triages the queue, and an organisation that believes a removal was wrong should write to the operator directly. Reports are handled in confidence; a reporter is told only that the report was received.

7. Availability

The site is provided as it is, without any warranty that it will be available without interruption or free of errors. Access may be suspended for maintenance or to protect the platform. Content is supplied by the organisations that publish it, and MoNGO does not warrant that it is accurate, complete or current.

8. Liability

Drafting placeholder. The limitation of liability is a commercial and legal decision for the operator and its adviser. The clause below states an intent; it is not settled wording.

MoNGO is not liable for the acts or omissions of any NGO or company introduced through it, for the use anyone makes of a contribution, or for loss arising from reliance on information published by a third party on this site. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Changes, governing law and contact

These terms may change; material changes will be announced on this page. They are governed by the laws of Mauritius, and the courts of Mauritius have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Personal data is handled as set out in the privacy notice, under the Data Protection Act 2017. The operator’s contact address will be published here before launch.
