An adolescent who left school at thirteen cannot enter a formal training institution, and by sixteen has usually stopped believing they ever will. This programme is the step in between: nine months of workshop-based training in carpentry, catering or light mechanics, alongside literacy and numeracy taught through the trade rather than in spite of it.
Each participant finishes with a portfolio, a placement in a local workshop, and — for those who want it — support to sit the formal certification they were previously locked out of.
The budget covers three workshop trainers, materials, the literacy tutor, participant transport, and the placement coordination that turns nine months of training into a job.

The carpentry cohort finished their first commissioned build this month — twelve benches for a community centre, made to a real specification with a real deadline. The difference between practice work and a job somebody is waiting for is visible in how they worked.
Eight placements confirmed with local workshops for the cohort finishing in February.
