About this project

Sixty households join the 2026 cohort. Each is matched with a mentor who visits weekly at first and then fortnightly, and who works with the family on a plan the family itself sets: getting documents in order, stabilising income, getting children back into school and keeping them there, addressing health that has gone untreated for years, and making the dwelling liveable.

Three years is not an arbitrary number. Households that exit accompaniment after one year very often return to where they started; the third year is where changes stop depending on the mentor being there.

The budget covers mentor salaries and supervision, the direct-support fund each family plan draws on, and the measurement work that makes the outcome claims checkable.

Updates

The 2026 cohort is fully enrolled: sixty households, matched with mentors, first plans written. The most common first milestone this year — as it is most years — is a birth certificate or a national identity card, without which nothing else in the plan can legally happen.

From the 2023 cohort now finishing: 71 per cent of households have a stable income source, against 22 per cent at entry. The full report will be published next quarter.
