School materials, uniforms, transport and after-school tutoring for 260 children in families already being accompanied out of extreme poverty.
Rs 10,000 covers one child’s materials, uniform and transport for a full school year.

Families in extreme poverty do not fall out of the school system dramatically. It happens quietly — a uniform that no longer fits, bus fare that has to go on food, homework that nobody at home can help with — and then one term a child simply stops going.
This programme removes those specific obstacles for 260 children in families already accompanied by our regional centres: materials and uniforms at the start of each year, transport where distance is the barrier, and after-school tutoring three afternoons a week in six centres.
Because these families are already accompanied, the support arrives alongside work on income, housing and health rather than instead of it.

The school year started on time for all 260 children, and for the first time nobody was waiting on materials in week one. The uniform distribution moved to December precisely so that would stop happening.
After-school tutoring is now running in six centres. We need four more volunteer tutors for the Port Louis and Bambous sessions — evenings, two hours, no teaching qualification required.
